In a heartwarming display of unity, talent and state pride, nearly 300 singers from seven schools in the Carson City School District came together to perform the cherished Nevada state song, ‘Home Means Nevada,’ by Bertha Raffetto. The event, held last week in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center in preparation for Friday’s observance of Nevada Day, resonated as a touching reminder of the state’s culture and shared values.
Under the banner of fostering camaraderie and celebrating local traditions, the music students, representing diverse backgrounds and communities, harmonized in a reverent rendition of the state song. The performance not only highlighted the students' musical prowess but also served as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving and cherishing the heritage that binds our communities together.
This year the Nevada Day Parade theme is "Home Means Nevada." With it being the state song, it gave many music teachers an opportunity to involve students and get them to sing and wish their state a Happy 159th Birthday, said Briana Valley, music teacher at Carson Middle School.
"This inspiring performance serves as a testament to the power of music to foster a sense of identity and belonging,” Valley said. “Our students have once again demonstrated their exceptional talents, and we are immensely proud of their dedication to remind us all of the many things that make our state so great."
The performance also allowed younger students to see the great opportunities and groups they have to look forward to at the secondary education levels, she continued. Hopefully this activity helped get them excited to sing more and continue their music studies here in Carson City.
"The best part of getting together to sing ‘Home Means Nevada’ with the other schools is getting to sing in such a big group," said Khloe Vaccaro, eighth grader at Carson Middle School.
A total of 295 music students joined together from seven schools including Carson High, Carson Middle, Eagle Valley Middle, Bordewich-Bray Elementary, Fritsch Elementary, Empire Elementary and Seeliger Elementary.
